Slave Cylinders?

Hi

What Slave cylinders do I need, to replace the two frozen ones on the lft hand front wheel, of my 1971 series 3 109 diesel landrover?

I will ring partco tomorow, but they will turnround with a list of hundreds, like normal, which do you want?

are the cylinders on the front right ok, sods law when you get these fitted you pull to the left

They seem to be ok, but then again, if it does pull to the left I can do the others, no problem, as I am not using it everyday, your probably right though! My luck allmost garentees it! You see people messing with seals, I can't understand scrimping on things like brakes etc.

I have bought two cylinders for the landy today, £35 for the two, with the VAT, from landranger services, Lockhead ones, so should be ok, not the cheaper ones, that save you about a fiver!

Arrange a night to fit thee, then it should hopefully be ok, fingers crossed!

I have booked the landy in at the local garage we use at work, I seem to have no time spare, and would like to be able to drive it now I have bought it! It's typical, isn't it, when I buy something, I go silly busy at work, and with the bees we have, and other things, vehicles and the like, resulting, in having to put it away! The brakes should be done on thursday, so just got to find time to drop it off, tomorow! hehe

Just had a phone call from the garage, they have replaced the cylinders, set them up, and tried to bleed them, but still have no pedal, I told them to stop trying, as I don't want to be paying them hours of labour for bleeding, something I can do in the dark if necesary!

So except the lifting of the front end of the landrover, any one else have any tips for bleeding the series 3 109, as I know alot of people say they have had problems with this in the past?

Hi,

Twin leading shoes are impossible to bleed. There is a pocket of air trapped above the bleed nipple (or outlet pipe). The trick is to wind the adjusters right off, which allows the pistons to retract fully into the slave cylinders. This reduces the size of the air pockets. Then bleed.

Note, it seems that sometimes the pistons do not retract fully, which means removing brake drum, and giving them a helping hand. Some people clamp the pistons hard in.
