Hi all. I need to replace my slipping clutch on td4 2004. Has anyone tried the single mass conversion kit. It's considerably cheaper and the clutch plate springs are supposed to be stronger to do the job of the flywheel. Im looking at this option as I dont intend to keep the car long but wondered if it'll work as apparently there's a crank sensor that relies on the dual mass flywheel. Is this correct as the seller of the kit recons it should be fine.

On the BMW 320d wich is very close to your motor the crank pick up actually reads of a plate which bolts between the flywheel and the crank so I dont think you will have any issues from that angle

You might find that the drive becomes harsh and very agricultural as there will be no soft take up. Modern diesels are very torquey and need this cushioning if they are to behave line cars and not tractors.

You can get a new DMF for £350 ish from dealers that advertise on eBay or Eurocarparts or something like that.
