Silent Stereo

Here's a strange one. Some a"£Ehole stole my head unit from my 1993 Classic. So I put a new stereo in but no sound at all..!!!! Wired a speaker directly to the stereo and got sound so no problems there (it's a Sony) and am wondering if there is an amplifier set up somewhere that I should be troubleshooting. There's nothing mentioned in my Haynes or workshop manual that I can find. Any help much appreciated and thanks in advance.

No idea if there is an amplifier or not but I would suspect strained speaker cable/s

After the theft I was a bit strained..!!!! Actually I was wrong in my description (I think) what I meant to describe was the front face panel was stolen not the main stereo body itself so the wires weren't pulled. So thanks for that, made me think..!!
