Side Window Demisting

What are my options for being able to see out of the side windows?

I've seen a couple of solutions, but quite pricey.

I have access to a 3D printer so came up with this.....



It's based on measurements supplied by my wife so will probably need refinement once I get back and take some proper measurements

Its also too big for the printer platform so I'm printing it in 2 parts to stick together.

I also need to go over the fluid dynamics modelling to make sure the right amount of hot air comes out of the front and side exits.

One method which I plan to do one day is run a pipe into the side of the current vent, the fit some Puma side vents on each side. Should give a nice oem look, be sublte and effective.

I did think about that too. I could 3D print a 'Y' piece for the flexible pipe plus a little vent to mount.

I was going to use a lot of glue and sealant haha

Mate I apid 60 quid for mine and although they work very well, they are rubbish quality and I know of about 5 blokes that would buy them from you if you made them. I'd even send you mine a s a template if you like???

60 quid? Yowzers.

What do you mean by 'rubbish quality'? Design or build?

Mine would be printed so would need finishing but very sturdy.

I'll get back in a week and try mine for fit, then refine design and possibly, just possibly, do a limited run!

They take about 24 hours to print so I'd get maybe 10 sets done, if I have time.

These badgers. They don't quite sit flush onto the dash but as I said they do work very well.

Or more to the point, I hope the patent owner doesn't have the cash to defend their patent

I have a feeling mine will not sit flush as the original vent is slightly recessed, but it is easy enough to knock up a spacer that will lift the front and sit the tube down tight on the dash.

I fitted the Britpart kit which includes two small vents in the side of the dash, like the Puma ones but smaller.
The kit works well, l tried the £60 ones that you fit to the top of the dash and the Britpart one works better. As in you get more air through the side vents. Plus it's invisible so that's great.
However it costs £120 and you have to take the dash apart to fit it, although it's not difficult.
Worth the money though in my opinion.

I use a window demisting pad I got at the garage.

£60 buys a lot of rags!

£120 for something you can make for about 80p is ridiculous. I saw those and while the best idea the price is absurd.

Either 3D print a "Y" part as mentioned by the OP or attach a second tube.

You can make pretty much anything plastic for 80p if you have the equipment available.
If not, then you just have to buy it from somebody who can.

The 80p was refering to a bit of plastic tube. It is literally a case of cut hole, fit tube, seal tube in place, run pipe.

You need to duct some of the air into the tube. If you just make a hole in the existing duct and stick the tube in (that feeds your new side vents) hardly any air will come out. The kit comes with modified air ducts to replace the existing ones.
tbh l don't mind paying for a modification that works.
After owning a Ferrari, Land Rover parts prices are next to nothing.

I made my own for a few quid with some tubing and circular vents, dead easy as above.

Did have to have the dash apart but I was doing that anyway for bulkhead repairs anyway.

Here nor there tbh, I just wont buy things that can be made for next to nothing or that are wildly over priced.

Obviously its a bit more complex than jibbing a pipe in, theres actually a pretty in depth guide online, ill find it. The total cost was a few quid, took around an hour to build and install. Ill dig the guide out tomorrow.

I saw something online years ago of someone who ran some pipe to the sides of the dash and had a couple of little plastic plugs in the side. Looks smart and worked.
