I picked up a decent thor manifold for absolute peanuts (people on ebay can't spell...) and am going to attempt a thor/14CUX hybrid (CHEAP) system, mainly to see if I can. Might go MS later but the price scares me - I only paid £1K for the P6. But I need to get a manual gearbox in there first. The series just passed it's MOT yesterday so that leaves some new project space...

It was a P6 that started my love affair with the V8 engine.

My old man was a jag man - grew up riding shotgun in his XJ6s, always manual with overdrive. Great cars.

Up the road lived a certain SGT R Bernie of merseyside constabulary traffic division who was a rover man - a 2000TC being his main wheels - One day he comes rumbling past the house in his new machine - 3500S Manual in mexico Brown with brown roof and grey cast alloys with the rover emblem on them - made the sash window in the lounge vibrate as he went past.

I legged it up the road to have a butchers - age 9 or so - he took me for a blast in it - it was brand new - HRB 888N - and I just remember the noise, the torque and fantastic way it handled - he was a very good driver as you would expect.

Anyway, that was me hooked on V8s.

My Dad still preferred the straight 6 though.

V8 is good power, I can only attempt to imagine the old days when the cars were smaller and the v8s were gruff.

Driving a Monaro with the LS2 fitted, yes it's blistering, but it's also very smooth, where the rumble and shake at?!

There's an old 3500S that lives round the corner, always give him a blip salute when I roll past him in traffic :)

ThorteenCUX :D should be interesting, no reason why not as far as i know, it's MAF system with TPS so it should work just fine, and that Thor mani gives great torque.

If you don't use Hotwire injectors make sure the impedences are correct and with similar dead time etc. you can tune the mixture quite simply with the MAF adjustment when you're hooked up to a sniffer.

Will be a fun build, yeah it can use lots of juice but only when out of fettle IMO, as least on a non-cat tune resistor it can attempt to lean off on cruise.

it's gonna be juicy whatever... Part of the reason is that it falls out of tune really fast with the carbs, partly cos they're a bit old, but partly cos the bloody thing's trying to run a 10.5:1 compression ratio (plus a bit cos it's +20)

yeah but it does give you good power for an early 3.5 with 10.5:1

funny how some owners seem to need octane booster and others get away with v power on its own.

ive just spent a week of spare time feckin about with my less than 1000 mile old su carbs- glad to say they are spot on now but I did melt a clourtune or two in the process :p

it does indeed go quite well, gottan app on my phone that's timed it at 9.5 seconds 0-60. It needs the octane boost to run at stock timing but will run (with a bit less go) without it if I retard it a bit.

I am going to be running somwhere between 9.5 and 10.6 to one on my new engine depending on the source so untill its run in and I can fit the lpg I may well be using octane booster lol

one...

belongs to this..

which was this!!

two...though you can' actually see it cos of all the feckin pipes!!
