Hi
Hope someone can point us in the right direction. We have noticed that some times when we start up only one headlight comes on, the other then comes on after. It appears possibly an electrical fault, but where to look?
Also the light for the fuel filter is occasionally flashing, is this just directing us to change the fuel filter?
Hope there is someone out there that can point us in the right direction.
Many thanks

With that wisdom proclaimed I must add that a new fuel filter is never a bad thing (unless you put it in backwards) and perhaps you have a bad connection on the light.

The warning light that is coming on is telling you that there is some water in the sedimenter. This is the black plastic screw-on-the-filter base device that senses water.

To get the water out do the following:
1. Disconnect the electrical connector;

2. Unscrew the the black plastic device a couple of turns;

3. Fuel including the water should now run out and be collected in a clear glass jar for analysis (let it settle for a while and the water and diesel will separate indicating how much - if any - water was in the fuel);

4. If nothing runs out it's likely that the drain hole is blocked with road crud so use a spent match or similar and rod-out the drain hole.

5. Once about 250ml has run out re-tighten the device being very careful to NOT over-tighten it as they can snap off.

6. Re-connect the electrical connector.

These are known to play up so if it continues to flash, permanently disconnect it.

My fuel filter light comes on intermittently especially when there's a lot of surface water. I think it's there to tell me it's raining.

I keep meaning to disconnect the thing but never get round to it.

Lights could be the dim/dip resister on the bulkhead. It's mounted to the right of the bulkhead as you look at the engine from the front. Looks like a goldie coloured heat sink.

Bearing in mind the OP's car is a DII, I don't think they ever had dim-dip, did they?

@ JoDisco, I would be checking the electrical connector that goes on the back of the headlight bulbs, these can fail or become corroded giving intermittent performance.

Mine hasn't got dim dip,not seen any other D2 with it either.
