All,

Does any one have any tips on how to set the mixture up on a weber carb without fancy gas meters?
The only tools I have to do it are a big nose, ears and a screw driver. I know with some carbs its 2.5 turns out from fully closed then a slight tweak.
It smells very rich and when the tilt is open at the back I nearly pass out after about 10 mins.
well stinky.

The engine runs really well, pulls stong and starts withing half a turn every time. It is pretty worn though and breaths heavily but as metioned, runs really sweat.

far from a great answer but when ive messed with carbs ive screwed the mixture right down till it runs lumpy then half a turn back until it the engine sounds smooth.then run it for afew days looking for black smoke, flat spots and adjusted from ther.with the older engines it sometimes better to go with how it sounds ,runs than marks and timing marks.you compensate for engine wear!
