Hi,

I went to get some parts so I could give my disco 2 td5 a service.

I was told that 2 oil filters, a fuel filter and 8 litres of oil would cost me £120! (I don't need the air filter as I have a K&N).

The 2 oil filters were original landrover parts and the fuel filter was a britpart filter. can't remember the make of the oil.

However, on ebay for £11.50 you can get the 2 oil filters and fuel filter made by bearmach. then its just getting the oil.

Are these cheap bearmach kits any good?
What parts would you get if you were going to service you td5?

get only branded filters, cheap fuel filters like britpart, allmakes or bearmach could make the pump noisy and stress it... stick to mahle or coopers(or other top brand) if genuine looks expensive

was just having a chat with some other td5 owners, they asked me "how much do you love your engine?". If not a lot then buy cheap, if you really really love the car then get genuine all day long.

I bought genuine for years and then the price of them became silly.
For the past few years I have bought Bearmach stuff and not had a problem with it.
I buy Britpart air filters and replace them every 3 months.

YOU won't have a problem with them, your engine might suffer on a long run , there are OEMs or premium brands at middle price range which are more reliable... i'm speaking about oil an fuel especially... for air it's not so crytical if you change it often

I got a K&N air filter, shouldn't have to buy another for a very log time because it can be washed (which I will do every 3 or 4 months).
My main worry are the fuel and oil filters, I can get the 2 genuine oil filters for about £30 for both, not sure on the fuel filter, think it might have been a britpart filter they were trying to sell me
