Hi,

I am in a bit of a pickle, my landy is a one previous owner 1998 300 tdi with full service history (165k on the clock serviced every 6000K or so), not all dealership services but from a garage nonetheless, I was wondering if I should continue this, when I bought her it was my intention to do the servicing myself, but I am getting a bit protective over the FSH thing, does it make any difference to value/desirability with a vehicle of this age?

I sold a Golf VR6 I owned for 6 years last year, which was in a similar state when I bought it, and I felt a sense of guilt when I told the new buyer that "it did have FSH until I got it".

You can always keep a record of the services you do.......When looking at buying a vehicle it's easy enough to work out whether they know what they're talking about or not

have never placed any reliance on service history there is no telling what even main dealers have or have not done and at the age / mileage and value we are looking about here condition is far more important.

as above, keep records of what you have done.....

I have always just put the riseats for the oil's and filters With the book and that normaly keeps folk happy when I eventually sell it on

Main dealer lost my service history book on one of my cars. Trouble was it was not a full history with that dealer. Needless to say when it came time to change I had to go back to them to get the best price. Which they agreed they would do as they messed up. Happy days except by then I had had enough of Peugeot.
As for land rovers I don't think at that age it matters it will be all down to the condition of it, but if you got receipts to show it helps

Keep every reciept you get and note down what you have done. done it with all my cars even if they didnt come with any history and its paid off when thay valued my p38 as total loss. ant take some pics when looking its best aswell.
Failing that buy a stamp and keep book stamped up

all a dealer stamp means is theyve charged for some work... dont say what was actually done or the quality of the parts used. on an old vehicle recent receipts for replaced parts is the only bit that means anything. the current condition and how it drives is the only real indication of the vehicles value

i have a td5 es premium on a 54 plate with 69k on the clook like you i thought long and hard my thoughts are the last service my car was due would have cost me apx 1500 at a main lr dealer after an hr on line i got all the parts (and they were all lr parts ) for 160 ink 5/30 oil 1 day of my time and look at what i saved
no if the odds are that a dealer will nock money off because it was not serviced at a dealers think of it like this if you have the car for apx 5 years and your avarage service at a dealer would cost apx 600 (3k ) now think would your car be worth 3k more than one with out ???

oh and a defender 1997 r plate csw 90 with 116 k on the clook flr service up till 108k then by me aftre that now what is that worth ??

Thanks for the advice, its pretty much as I suspected. When I bought it, it came with a folder with what I think is every receipt conceivable, there are even waxoyl receipts dating back 1998, £25 for a full application!

cheers

I dont really bat an eye lid at the service history, only thing I ever check is that it has been serviced at correct intervals using the right stuff. Oh and if fitted cambelts etc.

I do all my own servicing and write in the book when and what I did at what mileage. Never worry about sticking receipts in the book though, although I do like that idea so will do from now on!!

I had a full printed service history with my landy when I got it (ex fleet vehicle).I keep all receipts for work done on mine and usually do the work myself. Annoyingly for my AA warranty to cover me I have to get it serviced at a VAT registered garage. Proof of self servicing isn't good enough.
