Ps if you take the fuel filter out you should see the remains of the earth strap and maybe a corrosion mark on the side of the filter.

I damaged my fuel filter as I removed it as it was stuck in place. But it didn't matter as the whole point of the exercise was to replace it.

Ok here is what I have found.......

Do these connectors ever fail and need to be renewed?

Are the zip ties a good idea as a failsafe?

Anyone know where that loose connector has come from?

I had the same issues with the lower quick release connector when I replaced my fuel pump , when I reconnected it didn't lock in position took some fiddling to get it to lock . Maybe you were unfortunate , wouldn't like the job of trying to replace it """"no much access

This is the assembly off the car , bad design , mine was full of road dirt , I colour coded the fuel pipes before removing , shown is the LP fuel pump , filter and sedimenter

Are you sitting down?

I was quoted £385 + vat.....

Piece of mind was keeping the money in my pocket and sorting it out...... Cost me about £30 which included buying a brush, pot of Hammerite, Hammerite thinners and the radio key which I modified from Halfords.....

When you say LP fuel pump, there is ONLY one pump on the Facelift.

I wondered what the short dumpy round one was on the side of the pump & filter assy.

When I took mine off there was a spare power lead. Would that be for the FBH?

1.i think theres two pumps on the td4 the low presure and high presure pumps and if the hippo has the fbh theres a third solinoid pump the l/presure pump delivers fuel from the fuel tank and the h/presure pump which is chain driven keeps the fuel at a very high presure in the fuel rail:D 2.i think that is the sedimenter where you can drain water and crap :behindsofa: 3.yeah that lead is for the fbh pump the solinoid type:brick: thats better

Thanks.

My facelift TD4 only has 1 fuel pump in front of the offside rear wheel arch. The earlier ones had 2 pumps I believe.

what year is your td4? all facelift td4s from oct 2003 to oct 2006 have 3 pumps first is an ele/pump in the tank then a pump/filter then the injection pump acording to the hynes thingymajig:cool:

Mine is a 2006.

The early ones had 2 pumps, in tank and under bonnet. The later ones had 1 as far as I'm aware. I don't have one under the bonnet. Only in front of the wheel arch.

ok I am a self confessed perfectionist and coupled with the fact I am planning to tow a twin axle caravan over 600 mile round trip I need this to be bulletproof!! How much work is involved in completely overhauling that pump&filter area with new fuel lines and will that earth strap just connect onto a new filter?

Plus I have my 2 kids both under 4 in the car too!!

I just wish I could find a reliable garage to give the car and say "sort that lot out" regardless of £

Have a look at the connectors if they don't come off with a bit pull I would leave them alone, I think you've just been unlucky with the pipe coming off the first time, also I wouldn't worry about the electrical connector never had any bother leaving them as they are before, I think they're something passed over from the petrols where a static spark could cause bother.

Also the later td4s after about a 52 plate have the low pressure pump in the wheel arch and high pressure one on the engine, early ones have one in the tank and the one attached to the wing in the engine bay.

Thanks I am hoping that I have just been unlucky and when they did the service they didn't engage it properly. Going to keep a few zip ties handy tho!!!!!

I also thought that the earth would be more for Petrol Models. Is the connector spade it should attach to actually part of the filter or the filter housing?
