Looking to fit a series truck cab to my 110 Defender as I prefer the look of the split screen and square rear window.

I was told it should be a fairly straight swap but might have issues attaching the series screen to the defender bulkhead.

Can anyone tell me what the problem might be exactly?

Hinges are are completely different So you'd need to weld new ones to the fender bulkhead. Make sure you get a Series 3 screen as Series 2's have the wiper motor attached to the screen. and bulkhead mounts are different to the Series 3.

easier to get a defender one ans change the window

Cant see how that would work?......

the windscreen "hinges" on the Defender bolt on, so no welding would be needed, I don't think it would be too difficult to make a couple of brackets to bolt through the bulkhead and marry up with a Series screen

Bear in mind wiper sweep though, they will hit the centre bar on the screen so that will need some thought, maybe use Series 3 wiper mech?

i'm on about the rear sliding window. if that's the only thing you don't like about the fender one, then can't you just modify that and stick a series in?

can't see the point myself

Cheers... if the hinges and wipers are the only issues, i'm sure I can find a solution.

Will post an update to this thread when it's all fitted.

Didn't they change the screen originally because of some legislative change which necessitated a wider field of vision? So downgrading to the earlier Series windscreen might fall foul of that law.

Something to double check anyway.

Yep swept area increase for market compliance think it was Australia??
You could mount a wiper wheel box upside down to rack cable to reverse it's sweep on one side
You'll need to use the shorter series wiper arms and blades or mod ur own
U making a tax exempt looking defender then?
Wonder if you could drill a hole through series 3 frame and use defender screen bracket, think frame is tapered so might look ****ty but with the parts in front of you it's your shout

Would make it illegal as the split in the screen impairs view. You'd need to get a series or something, and put your defender chassis on it, and maybe the wings if you wanted to.
You'd probably get away with just swapping the windscreen, depends how worried you are by the law! :) I wouldn't have said it was worth the trouble, if you want it for the looks, just fab up a little strip of metal, and weld it to the window frame - will be a pain in the ass when you have to change the windscreen though - and again, will 'impair' the view. I'm sure an MOT tester will tell you how they test for impaired view - you might be able to get around it somehow!

here's a couple of pics from someone else who did it. They the modified the defender brackets for the screen and simply used series wiper arms.
