hi guys i've had a couple of disco's but now fancy a tax exempt series 3 lwb, firstly what are they like are they a good useable everyday motor, are they fitted with heaters?, economy dont bother me so is a petrol nicer to drive than diesel, you're the guys that know so what spec should i look for, is it possible to fit later alloy wheels and wheel arch kits etc, purely for my wife i want to make it look abit more modern. thanks spencer.

like anything each to there own on taste etc, im more interested in hearing what the vehicles are like to drive and own etc, at the moment im given the impression there not good.

I'd advise trying one first, I love mine but it is rather agricultural. Mine is a petrol and it is still rather noisy. As far as upgrades go check out this page:
Enhancements for older Land Rovers - Glencoyne 4x4 (Thetford)
Basically everything can be upgraded but a defender heater tops the bill for me!
If you want to see my 'contemporary but tasteful' series look up Charles Emberton on facebook.

thats very helpful info and interesting reading, thanks very much

Ive got a s111 diesel, its slow, noisey, slow, thirsty, slow, cold, slow, bumpy and err slow, love it to bits tho, cant stop the stupid grin taking over my face everytime i get in it. Just get one, life,s just to short , go for it:):):):p

 Just buy a freelander if you want to go shoving tat on a landy........

series 3, swb, 4cyl, petrol, 1974, i love it and cant think of anything better even for a daily ride..... i think you either love em or hate em... getting a bit rarer and more expensive to buy now especially as near origional as possible, if it was me and wanted to tart something up i would look for a more modern car.. (having said that i in process of a few mods etc)... only my opinion but think its not the right car for your missus unless she is blind and deaf and a brilliant sense of humour.... only my opinion
