Hi,car's coming on well,but i want to change the back door to a tailgate,and therefore need to move the spare tyre from the rear door.Does anyone know if you can use the same mounting off the back door to mount the tyre on the bonnet??

If its a SWB I'd recommend keeping spare wheel at the back...I didn't beleive it until I tried it but it drives much nicer if the wheel is on/in the back...looks good on the bonnet though. I'm trying to find/devise a spare wheel carrier for the tailgate that swings down...

Take your spare, rest it on the bonnet and

a) check driving position and how much it obscures your view

b) imagine it flying through your windscreen in a crash (probably unlikely though)

c) try and lift the bonnet

then just strap it on the bulkhead behind the seat

hmmm put it in the back and sod the load space a small price to pay for a better ride. Mine is bolted upright on the bulkhead I also have a mounting and dished bonnet and do carry 2 spares if traveling a long way. As stated try and lift the bonnet with a spare on tis heavy.

Bonnet mounted spare reduces visablilty quite a bit;

Not when yer 6'6" it don't :crazy_driver:

Failing that, there's a swivelly brackety thing that yer fits on yer bulkhead lip, and when the wingnut is tightened holds the spare nice and secure!

I used to have it on the bonnet because it looks cool, reduced visibility never bothered me that much. The bonnet is a proper pain in the arse to lift with it on there though so I ended up moving it.

haha i hadn't considered that, you probably wouldn't feel teh bonnet on its own if the support gave way but it would definitely hurt in the morning if the spare was on it :)
