Hi there, as you may of seen I'm new to owning a Landrover got myself a 1983 2.25 petrol. I wanted to know if its possible to fit a snorkel and if so where would I be able to buy one,

Cheers

Mark

I tried Google and EBay buy most of it is DIY and although there are some good ones I was looking for a kit I could buy and just bolt on, also unsure if there is anything in the engine bay I would have to change too, looks like I'll have to do some more reshearch. I think I'll wait till the new year and have a look round again, guess the joys of having a series Landrover is there is always a job to do

If you want to go wading in a petrol you'll need to waterproof the electrics thoroughly - once the water hits the fan it tends to get thrown around the engine bay a bit if you haven't got the shroud fitted.

snorkels only encourage you to go deeper than is safe, there's plenty of youtube videos of landrovers ending up being washed downstream into deeper water

i sank my truck cab 88", poor doorseals, no seal round the tailgate and the rear still floated before swallowing the river into the engine, yes i underestimated the depth

yes it can be fun but it can also be dangerous, try not to run before you can walk, landrovers are very capable vehicles but they most certainly aren't submarines and humans don't have gills

mine at just over the wings

Thanks for the advice, I think I will leave it a while before I go swimming, to be honest I'd like one for the looks as well as the practicality but after seeing that I agree having one will only tempt me to go swimming

That's why rubber gloves were invented - you've obviously never driven an old mini!

hee hee the marrigold trick the other trick with the old minis was a 2 litre coke bottle with the leads shoved through the neck used to work wonders stopping the spray coming through the grille :rolleyes:

Slap some greas all over the dizzy and over the plugs with leads on the plugs smother the plug holes in grease aswell as the leads them selfs.

with a snorkle fitted i use to regulery have the engine running with the bonnet under a foot water in my off roading days with my 2.25p s11a and s111 :)

thanks, im also thinking of turing my rag top into a truck cab, was bidding on one on e-bay and then it suddenly got taken off, looking for on to collect from some where within an hour of Blackpool FY3

I made the snorkels for mine (one for each carb) for about £80.
I used drainpipe to go at the side of the cage but if you've not got a cage mount it to the frame for the screen, and then used silicone hose that I got of the Internet for £60 for 2 metres, you wouldn't need as much if your only fitting one,the silicone hose goes straight from the carb to the pipe mounted to the cage and then a k+n filter on top.
