basically you can but you need to move battery tray or at least part of it to clear injection pump and fit series manifolds unless you mod exhaust ,sherpa inlet with filter housing attached are good if you can find one

exhaust mod would that be usinng a defender exhaust , what about electrics side would that mean hammering the wiring ,this is my weak point iam pants with electrics
thanks for the help ,its going to take a **** load of tea this one , never took on something as big as this , but i got to try and rescue the old girl ,she too good to scrap ,

I'm in the same situation but a chassis rather than engine swap. I think patience and a bit of advice from here will go a long way. Oh, and tea. :) best of luck with it, look forward to a resto thread, something I must do myself....

Is there any particular reason why you want the 12j? Many people on here seem to favour the 200 TDI, often rescued from a tired Discovery. There's a bit more collective wisdom on that because it seems to be a fairly common conversion.

Wish I'd used a 200tdi. The 12j is barely any better than the 10j.

As above, offside mount needs modifying and Steve Parker make an exhaust for the conversion. Electrics are pretty much a straight swap assuming you're currently running a diesel. Except something about the stop which I can't remember, sorry.

thanks for all the reply everyone , reason for this particular engine choice is a cheeky ebay bid which landed me the complete engine , rad and power steeering rack for a grand total of 20 quid ,
battle commences tuesday pics from start to finish will be uploaded , i not donig it alone so two heads and four eyes should be a help ,

if iam honest i really wanted to stay original but cost of a s3 engine is too much ,
i aint looking for a speed machine just a good ol girl back where she belongs on the lanes and having fun
