Series 3 electrics problem

hi knowledgeable ones! Why does my charging light only work if it's not fastened into the back of the dash? I.e. Plugged in it's on all the time. Hanging loose it works as it should. Why would it be earthing out. Rest of dash is ok. Some background is needed - my Landry seems to be a series 2 or so, with a series 3 dash andwith a dynamo but with negative earth. All like this when bought. What's going on?!

its a dynamo, not an alternator - lectrics be diffrunt

I would try wrapping some tape round the holder see if that stops it when its in the dash

if 29 is the charge light it seems to be the same principle as for the altenator diags, ignition to dynamo

sounds like the holder is earthing to the dash

28 is warning light - goes to controller box - so problem in there, i would suggest.

Light goes off when there's a few revs on

What's number 27& 33 above?

By the way there's two wires to the holder. could it be that it's series 2 wiring( + earth ) to a series 3 dash ( - earth)?
I'm confused, and fed up!

it says 29 is the charge light in that legend, not 28 or am I missing something?

I mistook 18 for the dynano

seem to remember something about dynamos not delivering charge at low revs wasn't that one of the reasons alternators came on the scene?

missing on yo motor - that pic is for a 2A

Still think there's something odd going on, light goes off with a few revs on, battery is getting charged ok, the only thing wrong is that when the light fitting is pushed into the dash it - with ignition on and or engine running - it is fully lit all the time.
If the metal part of the dash is getting a current the other bulbs would be lit too

It will be because the bulb is being grounded through the dash. The controller and dynamo earth the bulb, therefore that is what is happening on the equipment. Check there is not a short between the wire going to the dynamo and the outer case of the bulb holder.
