Hi,

this is my first post on this forum,
i have a '77 series 3 swb currently running a 2a diesel engine,
im replacing with a 2a petrol but it didnt come with a clutch, and the one on the diesel in pretty bad condition,
i have a question regarding the clutch.
Ive been told a 9 inch clutch for a 2a will fit, is this the case?
Is there anything i will need to change or modify?
Also will i need to use a series 3 release bearing?

I think the belhousing is different between the S3 and 2 cut i could be wrong, someone will come and advise you better

the bell housings are completely diffrerent on a s2 and a s3, on the series2 the linkage for the clutch is on the right and on a 3 the linkage apperture is on the left of the bell housing

hi,

as there is a diesel 2a engine in allready i thought it would be a straight fit, am i wrong?
also the slave cylinder in on the passenger side is this a 2a or s3 bellhousing?
sorry if these seem silly questions

thanks

Engines should be interchangeable, the usual rule is use the clutch to match the gearbox.
You will need a petrol ignition switch, the standard diesel one will not work.

hello mate , the slaves on both are technically on the passenger side, as your sitting in the driver seat , if the slave enters the bell housing down by your left foot on the right of the right of the gearbox cowling then you have a 2/2a if the slave is entering the bell housing on the far left of the gearbox cowling ie in the passenger footwell but to the right then you have a 3 bell housing
