Series 3 chassis number

I,ve googled it and searched and found that the number should be on the chassis near the spring hanger on the right-hand side of the Landie but.....................is that the right side if you are standing looking at the front or the rear of the vehicle?
Got some problems with what the hell I,ve got as its all ties in with an Aussie motor including the tag under the bonnet, the unusual colour and a few bits and pieces but it says on log book that its declared new in GB by independent importer?

Get a wire brush on it...theres decades of grit, grime and debris on it..keep spraying de-greaser on whilst brushing, it'll show up if its there, its a fairly long number..about a 6 inch imprint.

i replaced my dumb irons and the old one were so rusty i couldn't see a chassis number anyway. can't see how i could put it back on.

your chassis number "should" be on the outside of the drivers side dumb iron (spring hanger) just behind the bumper on the thick plate that the spring bolt passes through

as already said the dumbiron could have been changed but i doubt it going by your description of rot around there

when/if you find it this might help

it's not that accurate but gives clues

Hi although an older post now, I'm having the same problem finding mine. Digging about on the internet I found this: Chassis Number Information
Therefore if I can't see mine, would it have been covered as the chassis is black and "rubbery" to touch. Hopefully that's a coating and not the condition of the metal LOL.
But seriously though, is the number repeated anywhere else on the vehicle, because following a recent MOT the DVLA have contacted me to ask for verification as it doesn't match their records. Weird given I've had the vehicle 5 years.

Is yours really a series.3 or a series 2.in disguise as i found with mine i too couldn't find me chassis number but with serious digging all over the net i found the chassis.numbers are repeated in certain places such as on top of the near side chassis rail under the rear tub and on the top of the front.crossmember under the radiator grille pannel if its.a.series.2 in.disguise the number should be on the engine.side.of the passenger front chassis rail just forward of the rear spring hanger practicaly behind the exhaust downpipe

Hi.
Thanks for your reply. I'll have a good look at the chassis. I did check on the driver side rear hanger but it's covered in bitumen type stuff, so God know twhere the MOT inspector got the chassis number from to get it wrongly written down. Bizarre. It's a 1972, series 3, well the engine is and I believe it to be original so far anyway.
Cheers
Ken

I'm missing why you want to find it so bad, it's on the log book innit so stamp it where you want. Chassis numbers on any car weren't compulsory till 79 or so anyway.

I don't know if you have one or how common these are but on mine the chassis number was printed on the information plate in the cab next to where the hand throttle is.
