Evening all. I have almost finshed a six month rebuild of a series 3 and only have one more problem to solve - fuel leaking from the accelerator linkage on the weber 34 1 ch carb. I am sure that this may be the cause of the motor not running perfectly, ie seemingly " missing" every 3-5 seconds on idle.
L have had new ht leads, dizzy cap, plugs rotor arm, all to no avail. Also adjusted settings.
I would appreciate any help especially if the carb can be fixed or is it worn out?

Slop in the fitting prob means the carb is beyond a home rebuild. If its leaking fuel it should not be used as it sits above a nice hot exhaust manifold. So your s3 will end on fire quite quickly if you use the carb as is. I bought a new webcon 34ich for £100 and it was simple to fit and worked perfect. Peace of mind.

Used ones are tempting but 34ich is very hard to clean out properly. A new one is not cheapest option but its a quality carb. Zenith copies are pretty ****e!
Dont worry if you get a bit of an exhaust pop as that seems to be the norm on a 2.25. They like running a bit rich.

Have you checked the throttle spindle itself for wear, if it's worn but the body isn't then its easy enough to replace and they come as part of the rebuild kit. Check that it is actually the spindle and not the gasket above that is leaking down onto the spindle. Fuel leaks on the carb are difficult to trace sometimes due to the fan blowing all the time.

Mine bubbles every 5 or so seconds at idle not a bang or a complete miss, does it more with the leccy points for some reason. I don't think its a misfire though or the HC reading would be bad and it wouldn't pull (I can set off by letting the clutch up gently in a traffic jam without touching the gas if it was really misfiring I'd be headbutting the steering wheel). It's been like that with three different carbs and runs fine when given a bit of throttle. I suspect its more to do with the manifolds and how it breathes at idle or maybe even back pressure / scavenging of the exhaust.

Does it actually miss (i.e. shudder the engine) or does it just quietly bubble at the exhaust?
