Hello, my friend has a Land Rover series 3 88 (diesel) of 1981 (abandoned in Italy) and says that it was used for the demo car during the Camel Trophy ... maybe for a selection event.
He says he was left as a gift by the land rover
How can I know if it's official?
Or is it just a replica?
Vin and photos in private.
Thanks and sorry for my english

I don’t think S3’s were used in Camel Trophy. It was held later and the first vehicles were Defenders, Discovery and Range Rover.

I need to know if he participated as assistence car, or demo car or only participated in the italy selections.
Or is normal series 3 camel trophy replica.

If you get the chassis number and engine number, you could contact Landrover direct, they will probably have this information.

An Italian, told me that some cars were left (gift) from the land rover during the selections.
I discovered that in 1997 there were selections near the place where the car is located (Italy).

Possible?

There were 2 Italian drivers in the 1983 Camel Trophy, driving a series 3 88", and Series 3 109" were used as support vehicles in the same year.
It is said to be unknown whether any of the vehicles from that year survive.

I'm sure the car didn't participate, I think it was a demonstration car and then given to the owner of the land where the selections were made.
Or something like that

I have been looking at the site since Shimster posted the link to it the other day.

Sadly, it contains little information about the Series 3s that were used in 83, although rather more about the RRs, Discos, and Freelanders that were used in other years.

I think it is worth remembering that the Camel Trophy is rather an historic thing now, and peoples memories of the early years may be indistinct, or they may have have moved on to other things, or even be dead.
