Series 3, 2.25 or 2.3

I have a series 3 2.3 petrol. I have always thought series 3's are a 2.3 but seem to see a lot of series 3's described as 2.25.
Looking at the cc's, a series 3 has around 2286cc and a series 2/2a has a 2245ish cc engine.
Does anyone know why then series 3's get described as 2.25's as it makes no sense to me?

All are described as 2.25. The 2.3 comes from "rounding up" to nearest whole number, all the same engine size of 2286cc.

I thought Land Rover used to describe the 3 bearing engine as the 2.25 and the 5 bearing engine as the 2.3 in order to differentiate the two.

no 2.25 only got referred to as 2.3 when fitted to first 90/110s

They never attached a 2.25 to a 90/110 did they? When they started in 1984(?) they came with the 2.5. Or of course the stage 1 V8 with the 3.5

yes they did ,google rtc2918n
basically the same engine as previous but with a better carb (twin choke)and air con and power steering options

I still maintain that the 2.25 and 2.3 are different cc's though after checking the Land Rover Ownership magazine

Forget what you read in magazines. Calculate the swept volume from the bore and stroke. 2286 it is.

bore diameter is identical as it is throught the range from 2.25 petrol to 300 tdi , 2.25 and 2.3 cranks are the same throw too

I think insurance call it 2.3 because they round it, (conveniently to suit them) for example, on my insurance, it says 2286cc diesel, on the quote summary 2.3
