Need some advice with my 2a. I've taken out the original gearbox which had the mechanical clutch rod to put in my Series 1. The spare gearbox has the hydraulic slave cyl & clutch fork which I'm trying to fit to the 2.25 petrol engine. The hydraulics won't be a problem, but the slave cyl looks like it will foul the X-member. The bell housing has the slave cyl opening at 5 o'clock when viewed from the front. When I offer up the gearbox to the clutch it jams. This has the original 3 finger clutch cover with two dowel holes opposite each other. My guess is the clutch cover is touching the clutch fork. Can I fit a 2.5 NA flywheel with diaphragm cover which I've got as spares? Would appreciate any help.

you cant fit a 2.5 flywheel to a 4 brg engine to use a diaphragm clutch you need a 3 dowel flywheel from a 3 brg engine, i usually swap the bell housing if fitting an all synchro box to the earlier type

Thanks for the quick reply, will that be the bell housing from Series 3? Will that have the slave cylinder housing in a different position to solve this problem of the X-member being really tight to the slave housing?

very late 2as and all series 3s have slave bolted to bell housing on lhs ,you could use the earlier type belll housing ie slave in drivers footwell or cut piece from x member for later bell housing

It must be a Series 3 gearbox & bellhousing I'm trying to fiddle into this 2a. The 'box was lying around for a couple of years but i think it was from a '78 109". Looks like the X-member will have to be modded. Is the 3 finger clutch cover the only part available for the two spigot flywheel, or can I find a diaphragm cover that won't foul the fork?
