Series 2A 1965 petrol ticking

Hello everyone,

When starting the engine, a ticking sound comes from under the bonnet, but only for a few seconds.
Pulling away in first almost no ticking sound, but in 3rd or 4th gear oh yes I can hear it.
It revs with the engine revs.
Especcially when accelerating I can hear it.
When lifting the foot just a tiny bit from the pedal, the ticking goes away.

In neutral at full throttle - no ticking sound.

What could this be, what kind of tests I could carry out?

Valve opening seems right as well as ignition timing.

have you checked tappets felt the open smoothly ,lift pumps can cause similar

What do you mean with lift pumps - sorry I'm from holland, not always sure what is meant technically.
And- how do I check if tappets open smoothly? You think they stick?

cam followers,and guides can wear so movement is not smooth, you can feel each one whilst you turn engine over
lift pump below

I'll take the top cover off the engine and try to look for play.
What could be wrong with the lift pumps that causes the sound? can I take it off just to test?
