Hi Guys

I have a Series 2 1961 Land Rover Safari Station Wagon, it has a Perkins 4.203 engine. Whilst driving it 3 days ago the engine overheated and lost all coolant from the cooling system. I have since topped up the coolant and tried to re-start the engine but coolant sprays from the area indicated in the picture. Please can you offer me any advice as to what may have happened and what repairs i am looking at. Thanks Ian

It sounds like you need a new gasket.
I've never fitted one myself but a few years back it cost me £300 at a garage to have the head gasket replaced and the cost was mostly labour!
However, it sounds like a simple proceedure that you could do yourself. Parts available from Land Rover Mags.
Others please correct me if I am wrong.
Good Luck!

Thats not the head gasket its just a blanking plate, seal as mentioned above and it will be fine.
Always worth adding some k seal to an old engine as insurance.
