Can anybody tell me of any problems in using a swb series 3 chassis to rebuild a swb series 2, as in engine or gearbox mounts fitting of the series 2 bulkhead, suspension mounts or routing of the exhaust system, I have been offered a series 3 galv chassis but dont want to have to cut lumps out of it to make it fit

The easiest way to fix your problem is to give your galv chassis to me :D

how much was the chassis offered for, if it is around the £500 mark , save yer money towards a propper 88" chasssis, ther only £650 - £750 depending

Thanks for the comments I dont know the asking price of the series 3 chassis yet but it sounds as if its not the right thing to do . ok will save the pennies and get the proper series 2 kit ,I know its only £750ish its just a shame you have to pay VAT on it

But is there actually any difference at all between the chassis though. I reckon it would all be a straight swap from an 88" leaf chassis listed as a Series 3 with all your Series 2 stuff surely?

IME there are some differences in rear body tub mounting points. These can be over come by redrill the bodywork leaving the mounts in the same place.

Some Series 3 chassis also had a mounts on the n/s/f leg (assuming RHD) for a steering damper.

What differences are they then? Where it bolts on the rear crossmember is the same, as are the ones nearer the front...put it this way when I replaced rear chassis on my 2A I didn't buy one specific for the 2A, just generic parts.

So what you are saying is yes you can build a series 2 on a series 3 chassis without many problems but it will probably mean that the vehicle will not be tax exempt, great if its for off road use only but not the cheap option if you want a valid free tax disc,

I found the mounting tabs at the rear of the seat base to be different. Just redrilled the seat base........was about 10 years ago now :D

If your buying the chassis new, you should be able to retain your tax free status. I wouldn't have thought that it would be deemed as being of a different pattern, just because it has a couple of extra brackets.
