anyone know when production series 2 chassis numbers start? 'cos a chap down my local thought mine (141 9000 44) could be pre production. just interested

1 is type - land rover
41 is model - series 2 basic body swb petrol
9 is model year - 1959
00044 - serial number
so basically it aint a pre-production as series 2 was introduced to the world in April 58

That one would have been built in Sept 58. The first home market ones(141800001) were built around the end of Mar 58
I own the very first one 142800016 and that entered dispatch 3 Mar 58 and second one was 144800012 on Mar 10 . There were roughly 1000 exports built before the home market.

thanks folks, shame he wasnt right but at the same time im glad i had the right info. and Bennybenny, the answer to your second question is no, i split up with the last one for various reasons about a month ago but am starting to regret it as she has 12 pre 1985 land rovers and wont give me any parts :doh:

but if your only up the road, you dont have any series 2 88 parts lying around do you?

im currently in need of an exhaust to fit a later 2.25 4cyl, mud guards and the passenger side door top. always on the lookout for a pto as well
