series 111 diesel

I have a 2.25 diesel engine which I am refurbishing, I have taken out the pistons and they have 3 rings at the top and an empty groove at the bottom end of the piston. The new pistons have the 3 rings at the top and have a ring in the bottom groove.

Can anyone say what the standard is and should I install the new pistons with the 4 rings or take out the bottom one

The pistons should have the four rings in.

Cabbies right. Even if it wasnt standard, having an extra ring would just give you a better seal and a longer life, so it's a good idea!
