Hi, I have just bout a discovery series one and have managed to find a second hand dog guard for it. The dog guard has the main arms that fit both sides but no captive nuts (or whatever they are called or spacers).

I don’t want to pay £25 for the bits so does anyone have any ideas how to fix it without the kit or where I can get captive nuts and what they are called.

Any advice would be appreciated - I was thinking about using superglue/loctite to bond a large washer and nut to the drilled fixing point any maybe a bit of copper pipe for the spacer ?

I too have just fitted a dog guard, and had never heard of a 'rivnut' prior.

As I never had these, what I did, was to drill the 2 holes, then put through a bolt through from the inside, and then tighten the bolt with a nut straight away, and this then give me a good sturdy 'bolt' fastening to put on the bracket, and then another nut to tighten the bracket on, and jobs a good one, just don't forget to use spring washers to keep everything tight.

Hope this helps.
