Hi Guys,

First post from a newbie - I am contemplating buying a Series 1 with a canvas tilt that has been offered to me. Its a 1958, been rebuilt 18yrs ago (looks like a couple of years ago!) with a new bulkhead, chassis has no rot and never been repaired, re-sprayed, engine honed and re-built etc etc. The guy has all the old MOT's etc and apparently its only done 50ish miles/yr since the rebuild - runs sweet and he's asking £3250, although it needs a few items of trim (door rubbers etc) to the value of about £250.

My question is simply is this a fair price? Your opinions would be very welcome. Thanks in advance.

well if it honestly is in that condition yes it is but i cant see trim rubbers costing anywere near that price. or would you get sombody else to fit them what else is needed

It needs a full set of door rubbers (£100/both doors) as these are either missing/rotten, gaitors for gearlever and both four wheel drive levers (£23) which are all missing. Also the drain channel and vertical bar for each side of the tilt frame which are missing (£177 both sides) - all of these item prices are as quoted from Exmoor Trim and Dunsfold - total around £300.

Everything else appears to be OK

Ya having a laugh with those prices aren't you Try again but this time use LR Series. what are based in Nth Yorkshire..

If I was paying over 3 grand for a Series One, I would not expect it to a tatty gaiters, they are cheap, if the vendor can't be bothered with them, what does it tell you about the rest of the vehicle?

You been under it and checked the chassis? (Banged it with a hammer for instance?) Or are you taking theseller's word on this? Don't rely on MOTs ... my 1954 S1 has MOTs but its a real shed!!! Sounds too good to be true ...so it might not be!

No pictures unfortunately, but the seller is well known to my brother as a genuine guy. My brother just happens to be a Landrover dealer and has had the vehicle up on ramps and checked the whole vehicle out thoroughly and also had a test drive - he reckons all is well, the chassis and bulkhead are good and she runs just fine - but needs a little titivating with new rubbers etc - nothing major.

I only asked the question to try and gauge whether £3250 is a fair price and am still interested in peoples opinions on that.

Deal is now done (thanks for your opinions) and I'm fairly happy at £3125. I'd post a picture if I knew how! One other thing - any suggestions as to where best to get a limited mileage classic insurance policy for a Series1?

Found out how to add some piccies - easy when you know how! Only got these two for the moment I'm afraid - I'll post some more when I get her home.

Thanks.
