Hello,

I have recently inherited a Series 1 Landrover (1957) and need some help.

The Landrover has been stood still for the past 20 years and I have tried to see if it will start and nothing.

I have changed the battery and I have lights and working wiper blades, but nothing coming from the engine, no sound of fuel pump, nothing at all.

I thought at a minimum the engine would try and turnover, but the ignition button doesn't seem to do anything (no sounds)

Suggestions on steps needed please.

I have tried the crank handle and the engine does turn, so I know it's not ceased.

I know where the starter button is.

The issue is that this doesn’t appear to do anything.
The starter switch is basic to the extreme. It just makes the connections when pushed in, and comes back out on a spring when released, breaking the connections.

Take it apart, and look for worn contacts, or wires come off the switch.

If not, maybe a new one. I think Series One club is the best source for many parts for these, although the switch is probably the same as the ones on a Series 2.

Hello,

I have found out the issue and it’s the ignition coil.

I’ve been told it’s the old type for a series 1.

Any recommendations on where to get one from?

link to item if possible.

Google Accuspark, and ring them up, they are helpful.
I think it will be the 8 volt coil with a ballast, but am by no means certain.
With specialised stuff like this, online ordering is usually not the best policy.
