Selling private reg

Hi all,

My l322 came with a private plate on it, with certificate

It doesn't mean anything to me, R666GRN, maybe a shìt attempt at 'Range'...?

Anyway, I had it valued at 400 quid by regtransfers.co.uk obviously they take a cut and charge a selling fee so it'd be about 310 afterwards. They sort a replacement reg from dvla for you as well.

Anyone sold a private reg using one of these kind of companies or privately? Any pointers?

Never dealt with this kind of caper before, am I better off just leaving it on?

Had a private reg number on my daughter's first car, when the time came to sell it on, I had the reg number put onto a retention certificate via the DVLA and they provided the car with a new registration number. Eventually put the private number on a different car. That was about ten years ago and I think it cost about £80 at the time. So time for you to have a look at the DVLA website. There was a time limit on the retention certificate, it had to be renewed annually for another £80. (If my memory is right)

Yeah not interested in retaining it, just want shot really. They seem a lot of hassle, my moms got one and her chap, i can't be arsed with all the faffing about hence looking at selling thru a dealer

Its 25 quid for 10 years or somit stupid after a year & the initial removal fee 80 quid. Used to be 25 quid a year. Ive got a couple
on certs id need to look at the dates to confirm. Use to be 105 but they have reduced it.

If you put it on retention you'll probably get the original reg number back. I got £800 for the reg that came with my car from nationalnumbers.co.uk but IMO it was a better plate than yours.

I think more likely 'the number of the beast'.

Its a shìt plate, I want it off

I can't figure out if i want to put mine on the landy or not. I think you have to be a certain kind of person to get away with it and not look like a nob..

It's a bit scooby ay it, especially on a full fat range as well. Kinda screams dìckhead to me not that anyone with a fatty on a private plate is one obviously....but I kinda feel like one

When i had it on my beemer, it fitted the car and fitted my job, plus people knew who i was

My moms got a good one tbf CS58CNS - C Smith 1958 clinical nurse specialist i was quite impressed but its on a bloody juke

My Irish relations have a nickname to distinguish them from all the other McKennas in the area so I have the name on my plate. Everyone knows who I have come to visit when I go over there .

I can't change the number on my Disco Anniversary. It is a very ordinary plate : letter, 2 numbers, 3 letters. It doesn't look like it reads as anything either. I have thought for some time that somehow LR managed to make it so that Anniversary models had to keep the plate that went with the year of issue.
Yet some KH said to me, "Is that a private number?" and when I asked him why, he didn't really have a reason. But I like it as the two numbers are the same as the dept we live in in France. Pure chance, but there you go!

My initials are very rare on number plates, a colleague once had a Renault 5 with them plus the rest of the plate would have matched the year of the Mini I "Cooperised" I begged her to let me have it, she talked it over with her husband who said it was too much hassle, so then I said, "When you sell it please sell it to me?" They agreed.
A few months later the car was gone and they'd part exed it. "Oh you'd never have wanted to pay what we got for it!"

Din't talk to her for a few weeks.

Where we live in Dorset they are very hot on peeps who group the letters on their personal plates wrongly. My ex son in law got stopped and told they were going to fine him 3 times as he had this on both ends of his RR and on his trailer. But apparently they are supposed to warn you once and he hadn't been warned. So he got away with it.

My Dad use to work for a garage who supplied personal plates once for a limited number of cars.

They managed to get every A nnn BMW plate where nnn was a valid model at the time.

sounds a bit obsessive! dont need a plate for that.. the badge on the boot lid tells you what it is

at least my plate was relevant to me
