I'm selling goods of a high value & after some thinking I'm having second thoughts saying I'd accept PayPal as well as BT. Got a deposit by PayPal, but the invoice mentioned their "Chargeback" condition & I'm now a bit wary.

We are talking nearly £1k here; would YOU take the risk. Or, am I worrying over nothing?

That sort of money I would want either a bank transfer or good ol' cash... Paypal will sting you on fees and its not actually your money for 60 days with paypal...

Right, say it was you. Would you be offended if I sent back your deposit & said BT only? I'm more worried about a claim 6 weeks later than PayPal fees. Although surely as a the seller I don't pay fees?

if it was me i would take a deposit via paypal upto a max of 100 quid, the rest to be payed either cash on collection, cleared cheque or bank transfer,a genuine buyer would understand with that amount of money involved

Paypal gives good protection but it don't come for free, fees are quite high. I would only use paypal as a buyer and not as a seller unless its a cheap item.

Setup a second PayPal account, transfer money straight out into a spare bank account, then into real bank account and close spare bank account.

Or setup second PayPal with fake details, once you have the funds buy something off yourself using the real account, and getcthe money where you need it, they can't chase the money, only the account holder

Paypal is ok if you ask him to send the money with the 'gift' option, this means he pays the fees and also has no refund rights or comebacks at all.

Or just the bank transfer eh

seller asking buyer to gift money screams con to most buyers.

paypal is a conveinient to buy stuff...
. ok for high volume low value sellers who can survive a low percentage of refunds but i wouldnt use it for high value low volume where even one refund will hurt.

From what I can gather I'm not paying any fees? Mailed him yesterday about my concerns, said not to worry about it. I thought it was my choice as seller in deciding payment method.
