sediment bowl? filter?

Hello everyone i need to know urgently were the sediment filter or sediment bowl whatever its called can be found on a 300 tdi disco? please help. also do 90s have them too?

dunno if 90's ave em but yer disco one is at the rear on the drivers side up under by the rear wheel..will look cylindrical with lots of crap all over it

Just in front of the rear axle, inside the drivers side chassis rail.

can i just take it off and clean it? or do you replace them? Are they the thing that needs manitanace? Dan

There's a drain tap on the bottom, but they normally disintegrate when you try to turn them, so taking the whole thing apart is best ... but you'd need a new o-ring first, or it's not likely to easily seal again .. unless you used silicone or something ...

Nope, they're best left till you've got the bits to put 'em back together again. Have a word with your local LR specialists, IIRC there's a kit with the o-ring and drain cock in it.

Well based on previous advice... and sods law... things do go wrong, however I have drained mine several times and taken the bowl off for a clean with no probs. You're more likely to break the drain screw which is plastic, and need to take the bowl off to clean it out... 10mm spanner and double jointed wrist to get to the bolt on the top.

no filters inside, just a plastic cone deflector. It will fall into 2 parts, a bowl and a sleeve. Be prepared for some spliied fuel too.

When I took mine off it was after breaking the plastic drain cock, then the top nut rounded off .. careful use of Mole Grips sorted it, then the bloody bowl cracked as well!!!

I'm not ham-fisted normally ...

Tell me about it... I've smacked me face on a brake disk, trying to free up the track rod for some adjustment today!

Haynes manual states to wash all the components with parafin and reassemble.

Take the fookin thing off and bin it. Join the plumbing together. Defenders don't have em so they can't be that vital.

's a damn sight better idea than getting ****e in yer eyes when taking 'em apart ...

I have an ice-cream tub handy when I'm taking a sedimeter off, works really well at collecting all the loose fuel and keeping it in one place - and NOT on me !!

Guess i had it easy then, Did mine whilst i was putting my new floor in hehehe

Can it be bypassed is it necessary.

Do you have to follow any sort of priming sequence once the sedimenter has been cleaned or do you just turn over engine till it fires

Assuming it's a TDi 300 it'll fire immediately with the fuel in the pump and filter, but when that starts to run out you need to ensure the revs are 1500+ so it'll carry through whilst the sedimenter refills.
