We are seeing a lot of motorcycles being stolen with the security overcome in this way. Some freezing agent used to freeze water pipes is poured onto the device and it goes brittle, smash with hammer and away you go.

As for devices which would cause harm to a would be thief then I am sure they are fine, legally, provided you place a warning notice ie danger of death, guard dog inside, etc. then it's their choice. Bastids.

I'm afraid not. It is not legally possible to fully disclaim by notice liability for personal injury or death on your property (EDIT: including a vehicle). I bloody wish it was - but it very definitely is NOT.

This is right.... If you put a notice up that someone may be injured then that will be taken into consideration, however, willingly putting a person at risk is illegal. As I have said before this is a minefield of an area because there is some interpretation as to what constitutes putting someone at risk. I can fit a switch that will let you urn off your vehicle's engine remotely, however if the driver loses control as a result and ploughs into a crowded bus stop then the person who activated the cutoff switch will be held responsible.

There is one unusual circumstance though. If the vehicle is slowed to less that 5mph and THEN the engine is cut off then the causality thing stops being an issue.

Like I said it is an odd one. Personally I tend to get advice before using cruel and unusual measures.

It is worth noting too that these laws are not intended to protect the offender as much as they are intended to protect other innocent people from suffering.... like the people in the bus stop I mentioned earlier.

As we are looking to replace ours that was stolen, our imaginations are starting to run wild at security measures. This is with the help of the kids...

We're talking strobe lighting and green smoke bombs that detonate inside.
Steering locks.
Transformer style seats that pop up and pop a cap in their asses.
Clutch Locks
Omen possessed Rottweilers that use the boot as a kennel.
Tracker
Alarms borrowed and converted from the horns used by anti pirate ships in Somalia.
Security bolts
'End of the world' fencing, with barbed and razored wire round the drive.
Huge ball and chain
A mobile bus shelter, spit bucket and a free oversized baseball cap for a bunch of street Chavs to guard it,enough to scare even the toughest of car thieves, (transferable for when ones doing ones shopping)

Not sure if this extra weight would effect the fuel consumption, by by God it would be worth it

stole my sat nav and music among other items.....rekon im 1k outta pocket

I have allways parked under my sniper tower but this time i have had to compromise,at least the back end (90 hard top ) is caged out with a tool safe....

it just goes to show that parking in a mine field with sniper patrol works .......

I think I may have the best anti theft device ever.

Its a big ass shipping container! Managed to get one very very cheaply.

If anyone wants to try and steel it they are going to need one massive crane or an angle grinder and a lot of time. In which time ill be on there asses with a 12gauge.

Got 'anti theft' lock on the front so you cant get bolt cutters round the padlock, only thing is I have to reverse in then climb out through the boot!

hey hey Ive just purchased the latest in my fight against crime! Ready for it?? ....... A Rechargeable battery Baby Monitor!

Problem is though I spent all night waking up to see if the light thingys were moving and I had not turned off the volume by mistake

Mines got a great one at the moment.

Take the handbrake off and the engine cuts out (bad earth).

Though it did get me thinking, I wonder if somthing similar could be fitted in to prevent theft make it look like engine trouble.

Like taking the handbreak off, though not the best since you can drive on it. Maybe theres somthing here!

whats a "murphy valve" ?

think it's the same as a paddy switch

Actutually... it is a valve that you fit in the fuel line of a diesel engine. It is operated by a 12 volt feed. So, when you want to disable the vehicle you flick the switch and no diesel is passed to the injectors.

It is the top option on this page: this one is 24 volt but they are available in 24 and 12
