What security devices did you have fitted AT THE TIME YOUR LANDY WAS STOLEN?

About 8 yrs ago i had a series 3 nicked 18 hours after i bought it it had a good engine cut out device, and a secret switch. The insurance sent an investigator out 3 days later the guy i bought it off got nicked for similar thefts of motors he sold, insurance still paid out because they couldn't prove which was the motor i had bought he had a garage full of complete and broken up motors all in the process of being ringed, bastid.
Thats why i am always wondering when folks get a landy nicked and they say i have only had .................days/weeks.

I am sure they drag them up a tailift recovery truck or pick them up with a crane on a recovery truck if they really want it so most devices are useless. Garage or long driveway are good! The road bad idea. On the road it's easier to strip overnight aswell. My landy gets blocked in by 3 cars overnight on my driveway. And I have a secret start button, battery isolated switch and park on full lock in gear. I know it's still nick able but it's alot of effort and that's what it's all about slowing them down. The more disirable the better need for more efforts needed to hold on to it!! This is my thoughts some may have other views.

It's quite amazing how people keep voting that their landy has been nicked but fail to start a thread.:mad::mad:

Can the person that has just voted on this poll please pm me.

If the person doesn't contact me I'm going to have to re-do the poll so that we can see who has voted as it seems people are having real problems reading what they are actually voting for.

Or there are more stolen than you think. The car theft rate in the UK is 1 in40, and with this site LZ you have concentrated one of the most stolen cars around.

If the stats are 1in 40 stolen with 79,569 members Divide by 40=1,989 stolen land rovers on here????

But why would you fill the poll out but not tell someone yer car has been nicked? I get a feeling it's people that just can't resist ticking the poll boxes.

If I redo the poll so we can see who voted I'll then no if a vote is genuine or if it's by mistake.

Maybe people can not read correctly and comprehend what they read, or read what they want. And many rely upon the putter to do there thinking and problem solving for them.

Due to some people innability to be able to read this poll has had to be re-done so I can see who is posting on it.

PLEASE VOTE ONLY IF YOUR LANDY HAS BEEN STOLEN

As the number of landys being stolen is on the increase again I thought I'd stick a poll up to find out what devices actually work and what don't. The results can help others keep their landys as safe as possible.

If you have had a landy stolen and post a thread in this section please can you take the time to tick the relevent boxes for what security devices you had both fitted and functional at the time your vehicle was stolen.

Please only vote on this poll if you have actually had a landy stolen. Pleae also be honest in your votes. You can vote for more than one item.

If for example you had a standard alarm and a tracking device then vote for both. If you had no security devices fitted then tick none.

Hopefully if we all pull together we can help keep our vehicles safer in the future.:)

Er, viewing the results, did someone have a Black Pearl fitted? are these recommended?:rolleyes:

Works really well if you live on the coast, you can float your landy out to sea and anchor up when your not using it and it's fairly safe.

Not recommended if you live in Samalia (sp?) though

I've just been analysing the info provided on the 39 trucks reported stolen on Landywatch since it was set up in Feb'11.

We've had more reports than 39 pinched but the posters don't elaborate enough to make it any use.

Of the 39 pinched, a bit of info.

- 35 were Defenders (or pre defner 90/110's)... ... (balance was 3 Disco 1's and a Series rebuild which was modelled on Def'ner)

- Of the Defenders, 25 were 90's, 10 were 110's

- 36% of the thefts were in the Humberside/Yorkshire area - most being in the recent epidemic in Sheffield.
- Defender age split...

3 x 19j // 19 x Tdi's // 10 x Td5's // 3 x Pumas

Security wise.... unfortunately a lot of the posters didn't specify what (if any) security they had in place but what we gathered from the 16 people that did.....

- The majority relied on the LR factory security.
- Of the additional security that was beaten....

1 x Aftermarket Alarm (Toad)
1 x Clutch claw pedal lock
1 x StopLok pro steering lock
1 x Disklok

We don't know if the mechanical security was genuinely beaten or if the trucks were towed/lifted whilst it remained in situ.

Link to the graphical summary of the responses is below....

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet...JTcm5OcG9tQXJfZEVPeGc&hl=en_GB&gridId=1#chart

Also, a link to the spreadsheet summary, which includes more info on each truck...
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet...-qdGZmN0s3SDJTcm5OcG9tQXJfZEVPeGc&output=html

This spreadsheet/graphs etc.... should be updated promptly now as details are posted on Landywatch. We're now making a concerted effort to get posters to give us as much info on security measures as possible.

Only 4 had additional security?:confused:

How did ya come to that conclusion?

Due to peoples innability to be able read I had to redo the poll so I could see who was posting on it cos we suddenly had a whole loads of landys nicked and yet no new threads appeared. Now I can see who's posting it's strange that people are posting correctly.

Because I transfered the results from the other poll across it knocks the percentages out.

Your spreadsheet is brilliant well done for your effort.

Id like to pick up on the fact one of them says "Disklok Beaten" can you confirm if this was the Disklok was removed successfully or the defender was towed/hiab away?
