Hi everyone - I am a new poster on here.

Got my 54 HSE Freelander back in October - been happy with it up to now

Now when it starts up after about a minute theres a high pitched screeching noise that lasts about 1 minute and then I never hear it again!

Any ideas what it might be - as I sit in the drivers seat it sounds like its coming from the left hand side of the engine compartment (passenger side)

Cheers

OK thanks everyone - will be getting it checked out asap

fore armed is fore warned - or something like that

My bets fuel burning heater starting, ours howls like a banshee for a few moments, have you only noticed since it has got colder ? put your hand under the near side front bumper/wing you will most likely feel the exhaust gas.

With engine running, give the fan-belt a quick squirt of WD40 on the inside.
Rev up. If squealing gone, problem solved.
A LITTLE WD40 makes a belt slightly LESS slippy, and a good deal more grippy.

It's a standard trick to eliminate slipping belt noises.

ShotGunDrew and SparkyDaz - you were spot on.

The garage confirms that the noise comes from the Pre-Heater (thats how they referred to it) as it kicks in when the temperature gets below 3 degrees.

Thanks everyone for your help
