Hi Cheddar most of the Intermarché's sell around here it is good, a bit more expensive than UK but not silly, Bacon I normally buy as a cooked meat same shape and smoked, would think it is the same bit of the pig but then I just fry it for about 1 min and it tasted the same in a bacon sandwich for me sausages there are many to try but not the same;
You could take a ferry to Northern Ireland drive though Ireland then across to France but seems over the top for a sausage

You make a good point Ian. How far would a person go for a sausage?
 
There are butchers in France who butcher a la Anglaise. We use them but they are bloody expensive and the carriage, being in a cool truck, costs half as much again, only worth using if you stay over here as long as we do. This is the bloke we use.

As for cheese, why the F would you want to bother with Brit cheese when there is so much choice of great stuff over here?
Because they do not do hard cheeses of British quality.

Do they have sniffer dogs for double Gloucester ?

Supermarket meat is passable in the UK not in france
My dad had his own butchers sshop so i was brought up with meat and the stuff in france isn't that good

Nope, where we are they proudly display the label showing where in France it comes from and what breed of cattle. Properly aged and filet steak melts in the mouth. We are in the south west, maybe that makes a diff. In a supermarket you need to get the butcher to cut it for you, not buy the prepackaged stuff.
The other stuff, i.e other types of meat, lamb, pork etc, we buy from a specialist, prizewinning butcher in the town and it is so good we buy a shedload, freeze it and bring it back to our place in the UK. Now we wouldn't go to all that bother if it wasn't better than what we could get in the UK would we? Even his minced beef is amazing, deep dark red with no visible fat.

Now my criteria will certainly be different to yours as we are all different but i speak as a butchers son
 
Yes always stock up with cheese, Toulouse sausage, wine to name a few things all the usual stuff steak hache being a must, more interested in diesel prices just had a friend return said super markets 1.65€ and 2.10€ on motorway should get to just south of saint malo on a tank

I just wish you could come to the shop with me. Even as a butcher's son I think you would be impressed. (You haven't said where in France you tried to shop for meat.)

Your mate is lucky with his supermarket diesel, it has been €1.76 at ours and €1.86 for peteroil. :eek:
