Hi all, I just returned my LR3 from a trip through South Africa, while there I had a South Africa disc in the satnav. Once I returned it to the UK (shipped not driven sadly) I swapped the SA disc for the UK disc but the satnav wouldn't work. Since dropped it into service guy who says it needs a new satnav module, cost £2k +labour and vat.... Any idea what this module is, or if there is any way to pick one up cheaper somewhere? Am a little surprised by their prognosis as if I put the SA disc back in, the system loads up,but obviously can't find maps. Not sure if its possible for the disc player to change region much like a DVD player and its now stuck?

2k is about standard for 'sub standard' factory fit sat navs which are generally poor. I ripped my 'standard' landrover one ( a Becker text only unit) out the second week I had the car ... garbage of the worst kind ... no updates available and even for a two your out of date disc landrover still wanted £300 ...

Thanks for the replies everyone. They tried a new UK disc and same problem as when mine is inserted. Also need to remind myself what happens when the SA disc is inserted, i know it shows a 'No GPS' type icon in the top corner but again i assumed this was because its out of range?? Asked who the manufacturer was and they just said it came from LR... I'm going to collect the car now and give myself some time to check through some options. Am thinking of looking for alternatives, if I have to spend money I want something better than what's there now.
BenKenobi- out of interest what did you have fitted?

Thanks all

It was a Landrover unit, Landrover written all over it but the manufacturer was a German company called Becker. The actual Becker model number I couldn't say they have a few that 'look' the same.

One thing I did find is that they are very very very fussy about dust and dirt so you could try a decent quality DVD lens cleaner, if that fails you may be able to get a replacement lens assembly but to do that it has to be pulled from the car and dismantled in order to identify what is needed but I think it is likely to be a Denso unit.

Factory fit sat navs are junk, all of them... rip it out and either get a simple unit and a tomtom or get yourself a decent aftermarket one to fit in the original place...

Hi, that is a high price to pay for what could essentially be a cheap fix of the DVD reader under the passenger seat. Ensure that you try another UK CD in the reader before getting ripped off.
