Hi all I’m picking up my discovery 4 next weekend and wondered if the sat nav maps will be updated. Is this something that should be done or can I do it myself and is there a cost. I had a Volvo which I downloaded the update off the net, put it on a memory stick and plugged it into the USB port. Does the discovery work the same way ? Thanks

I know someone will be along with a possible answer shortly. Possibly @gstuart having been kind enough to search the internet for it.
In the meantime, are you buying from Trade or private. If Trade, perhaps questions about do the doors lock automatically, will the satnav be up to date/how do I up date it and other basics, should be on all buyers , list of things to ask before buying.
Just an idea?

I understand from Land Rover that there has just been an update issued for the D4. I am sure you will have to pay extra for it and that is in the region of £175.:):):(

Plus 1 if ur buying from a dealer , if not be very careful buying updated discs off the internet

Seen many reports of non genuine one messing up the entire system

Doors will automatically lock after 30 x seconds, can be disabled / enabled in ur set up menu

Wondered that , know there are bogus discs on the internet and heard some have come unstuck buying non genuine discs and caused a lot of software data loss , involving a dealer then having to sort it out

My own opinion on this is, if you are buying a veh for thousands of pounds, you have most likely negotiated a lower price than advertised. In those negotiations the cost of things should be used as bargaining tools. Which means asking before buying if the satnav is up yo date, if not work it into the price. Thus negating the need to look for cheap copies.
Apart from which, thousands of pounds for a veh, a couple of hundred for satnav is just a sundry. It 's not like it's half what has just been paid for the veh ( and to some people it's a necessity , as they cant read a map, or print instructions off the internet);)

What is this "Internet" thing of which you speak? Is it some witchcraft?
Us on our 2400-Baud dial-up modems into the wonderful Bulletin-Board of LZ do wonder about these things. :D

Agreed, when I bought mine I also factored in diagnostics , tyres and tank full of fuel as a starting line , didn’t quite get the new mats, lol

Think the golden rule is being prepared to walk away and sticking to ur guns of what u want , no point compromising as there’s always plenty others available
