Sat Nav problems

We have just bought a 53 plate td4 & i can not get the sat nav to work.
I have followed the book accordingly and have reached hte point where it says calculating your route.
According to the book you are to stay stationary, a light flashes (CD) and after several seconds the route is calculated.

After 12 mins still no route.

I have also noticed the the arrow on the compass is always pointing to North, even if i am not travelling North.
We have brought the car over to France, but the disc does say that it covers Europe & I have been able to programme my destinations here in France into it, it just doesn't tell me where to go.

Hello, What head unit do you have?

Have you checked that are all the leads plugging in at the back of the unit?

Sorry to sound thick, but what do you mean by what head unit do i have?

I have not checked all the leads, as it is letting me search for the towns/postcodes, but it just does not tell me where to go.

What make is it..

I'm no expert but it sounds like the satellites aren't finding you..

It is a landrover one, built into the car

"53 plate" you might not have have the....speed pulse....wire connected, do a search on here for my post regarding speed pulse

Time fir some more meds bushy,,, the art is still there but most fleelanders opt fir the easy option,,,, but sound like he needs tae install UK maps,,,,

Have ye read the destructions fir it?

wuz recently askd by a yung wippasnappa tet driver agency "how do you find yer way about when multi droppin meester bushytale ?" an to is astonishment I replied " wiv a f***kin mancunian A to Z !" fraid am not modern enuff fer this new world of tekno stuff.
