Sankey Wide Track "Expedition" Trailer Build

Brilliant. Looks good and suits you, sir!!

Just a quick thought...I bought my side hinged tailgate from a mate who told me that he'd changed from the standard door lock as it kept popping open when the body twisted slightly as he went over bumps etc..

The trailer looks amazing, it's inspired me to do something with my sankey... Although I'll probably just make a side opening tailgate and some sort of spare wheel holder

Not sure what it weighs to be honest. It is still quite easy to pick up on the hitch and manoeuvre about. Should get it weighed I suppose.

Nice one Rusty Like the gas struts on the lids. What are you using to seal them? I was going to use sticky sided closed cell foam (3mm) on mine.

Just got the 50L water tank in with onboard water pump and slide out sink. Just need to fix it all in and I will update my thread. Its been slow progress while you finished yours!

Thanks yeah - the gas struts we thought were quite cool. They are Suzuki SJ rear door struts - used those because the conections on the end are easy to make a bracket for. Not a neccessity but hey ho

Sealing of the doors...the two side panels at the front are designed to only have jerry cans and perhaps recovery equipement, oils, stuff like that which does not matter if it got a bit of water on. These two cabinets are sealed from the rest of the inside of the trailer and of course if water does run in, it will come straight out the bottom as it has holes in the corners.

The middle cabinet we are not sure what is going in there yet, so we have sealed it - simply by making a 1" lip and the lid is a very good fit - nothing can get in there - it doesn't actually need a seal because of the design. On the hinge of this lid we have riveted on a thich sheet of plastic and then painted over the top of it. Difficult to describe but very obvious and simple when you look it it in person!

The rear door we tried using Series/Defender Land Rover (door) seals as we have it knocking about in the yard but it wasnt working out. In the end found the easiest was self adhesive seal.

Onboard pump and a sink hey - very posh!

The trailer had its first outing at the Peterborough show. Can hardly feel it behind the Range Rover - sits a bit nose down but that is to be expected and not too bad anyway.

Got a few more ideas for tweeks, but this is pretty much it so I can stop boring people with this thread

Thank you Will be at the Overland Show this weekend with one of the Rangies, the Sankey and the '63 88" - would thoroughly recommend going esp if you want to have a poke around the trailer

Thanks guys for the comments We got quite a few questions at the Overland Show about people thinking of doing something similar - good for them to see a home-brewed one in the flesh I suppose.

Next trip for this trailer needs to be something a bit more extreme than parking up in a field!

loosk brilliant mate! Only one thing i would do would be to fit a drop pate for the tow point on the actuall trailer to drop the hitch down to make it all level, but looks great!
