Exhaust heat shield caught light. Was on m20 between junction 10 and 11. We both ok. Just shaken up. Car a total wreck. Pics to follow

Petrol, non lpg. What really annoying was she needed a new rad and heater o rings, but other than that was mint.
Storm, she wasnt too impressed with the firemen, aparantly not too good looking.

Pleased you're both OK-as above cars can be replaced. Be positive=you don't need to do the rad or o rings now! You always wanted a different colour anyway.
Bet your next one will have the heatshields off and thermal bandages round the pipes (exhaust wrap) and ceramic coatings on the manifolds.

Am guessing he wasnt looking for chargrilled colour though:eek::eek:

Glad you are ok.

Yikes! Glad you're both ok. Very nearly happened to me. http://www.landyzone.co.uk/lz/f10/fire-hazard-124114.html. Tought me to carry a bloody big fire-extinguisher in the car now at all times.

Just a comment on the exhaust-wrapping / header coating. Very negligible performance boost if any, traps water and cause the pipes to rust (but tape holds it together so you can't tell until it all suddenly crumbles to dust one day) and the extra heat retained in the header so close to the block can apparently thermally stress the block and might cause cracks around the bolts.

Glad your both ok
So Guys being new to P38's is this normal/common, something else to worry about?

Thank god you are both ok - could have been a complete tragedy. Thoughts are with you for theloos of your motor... but what a trtade off... a chunk of metal for your lives! No contest

Thanks guys. amount of times smelt burning along the motorway dont usually take any notice just looked down and saw smoke in footwell. Took less than 10min to total it. Scary how quick it all ha
Char grilled not realy a colour i would personaly choose. Much prefered it in blue.
Just glad noticed it in time to get out.
From now on 1st thing get for a car is a fire extingusher.
Just got joy of insurance companies to deal with. Be my 1st ever claim in 10 years driving

ATF soaked heat shield, or hot ATF leak/red hot cat convertor will do it every time. Well known problem. Look on Utube for the Petrol Rangie fires. At least you and your girlfriend are ok.

Looking at them photos you should count your blessings and consider yourself and girlfriend to be extremely lucky. Glad you both got out in time, now go buy another one
