Hello all,

What are the top speeds of a standard SWB S3 petrol 2 1/4 in each of the gears?

Is there a rev limiter of any kind?

Was thinking about this when I was going down a very steep hill and the thing was running away in second!

Cheers

Dom

I have a 1979 109 with the same engine as yours and its totaly standard no overdrive, nothing, and in 4th it runs comfortably at 50 any more and its screeming, as for what speed in what gear mine runs roughly at 8-10 in 1st 10-25 in 2nd 25-38 in 3rd 38-50 in 4th...

My old man had his 109 with an overdrive 750's. It used to sit at 70 all day long on the speedo once the needle hit the wrong side of the 0 pin coming home from Wales!!

Twas serviced every weekend propshaft Uj's fluid check and all brakes pulled and cleaned (after competing in trials Yes a 109) the oils all run molyslip (some say snake oil) I run it in my 90 and am pleased with it. The 109 wans't silent but you could talk over the modified 2.25 petrol engine.

For those who need a spot of molyslip to quieten the overdrive a bit I can recommend Drake Tooling and Abrasives Ltd, I ordered it at 12:00 yesterday and it arrived by 13:00 today! Cheaper than anyone else on the web even with delivery!
I've no connection with this company, just like to reward good service!!

I have to say that the overdrive is a fair bit quieter after a 1700 mile run in period....however I'd like to try this.

Will it work ok with my Roverdrive - how much do you put in, do you just tip it in through the filler? I have to say I'm quite pleased with the Roverdrive. The change is now dead smooth and I've now got into the practice of using 3OD between 3 and 4 to get better accelleration, especially on hills, setting off in 1OD and 2OD is pretty useful in the snow too on hills to avoid wheelspin...

I'm now getting roughly 70 mph in 4OD on motorways...noisy but not over revving it...as a test I did manage to get it up to 80 on the Autobahn but it sounded like it wanted to take off!

Cheers

Dom
