Take a look at ALRC hybrids build it to a high specification such as MSA Comp Safari legal spec. That way it will still be worth some money when finished unlike many people's IDEA of an offroader as seen on ebay usually described as a Tray back or bob tailed but omits the word Wreck in the title.
 
Your Alternative is to sell it to a rivit counter and watch it degrade in their garden until they divorce their wife and get some money to rebuild it.

Is it a series III or 2 2a 1?

Series III no problem using it as a hybrid at all. Earlier model it would be a shame but hey ho I'm not gonna cry over it. Plenty about always wrecks coming up relativly cheaply to refurbish.

Whoever asked that question is a complete and utter f**ktard. They are going to buy a landy to make their current one illegal and take another one off the road / out of the pool of available landy's on the market.
 
my series is a III, im told so anyway. is got a 2 1/4 diesel, no overdrive, free wheeling hubs and its from 1978 so not tax exemped (otherwise i would deffinatly restore it)

someone said it might be a IIa but its my first expedition into landrovers so im not sure

i do want to be sympathetic to the s3 itsself, i might just cut the suspention motunts then fabricate the better ones into the s3 chassis. However, it is not going to remain standard by a long shot.

Ive been and bought etch primer and some solihul green, and cream to re spray it, and some new doors, from an old 90, with winding windows but still the old catch handles.

i want to keep the interiour standard and un altered. Generaly just want to make the best of both worlds, a realy tidy looking s3 that works like a modern landy
 
As S2 are now going up in value it wont be to long before the s3 follows.
But if you can doiti have fun.

i like this idea, yes you will need an sva but thats not too much to worry about as long as its done to a good standard not a bodge job, always liked the look of a series 3 and the running gear of a disco would improve its on road comfort, there are plenty of restored series' about just do what you want to do and have fun with it, thats what there there for to enjoy.
 
i would prefer a mass debate :p

ive finaly got the disco stripped of its body just need to remover the gear box so i can have the room to cut the chassis then chocks away.

the next job is to carefully disect the series, ive decided that the series bodywork should be treeted to a bit of paint so ill get monkeys to rub it down while i transfer outriggers and mounts to the new chassis.

get the box off today, when i drag my ass out of bed, then ill begin to mark the chassis for the chop
 
If its plated well it will be fine most low end comp safari motors and triallers are built on cut down Rangy Chassis. If your competant enough to undertake such projects then your welding and or mechanical know how should be up to the highest level. These motors take alot of abuse! but your welding must be top notch.
 
sounds good, just get some pics up so that the rivet counters all tell you why its such a bad idea :D
its not though, its great, did it to mine and it hasnt "snapped" or broken. a well welded rangerover chassis with dsc brakes etc has got to be safer than a series with drum brakes and a 1/2 rotten chassis.
there are so many polished restored landys out there why shouldent the minorety get used for what theyre built for, even if it means a different chassis and some dents.

i think i have found someone who thinks on my level. :D

dont worry ill show the rivet counters, i dont want to 'trev it up' i want to make a thorough and good job, however buying a replacement chassis isnt an option when you earn apprentice wages.
i have 2 landys, a powerful welder and a steady hand, just trust me, it will be a good job...

looks good, how much you taking off the back? it looks nasty when people leave too much at the back (at least in my opinion).
are you going to leave the hard top on?

yeah i get what you mean about the moneys-im 14 so going for a replasement chassis was completely out of the question. :)
 
well got cracking on the series this morning and got alot done i think...

i got the dash and "interiour" out not like ther is much, disconected all the looms both engine and dash. pedles are out too.

removed radiator and front body work, will be just about ready to start takeing off the roof, then tub tomorow i hope.

but ive got my work cut out with the welder now, the bulkhead has some holes.

well, just a quick update, but no pics, ive broken the camera...

the discovery chassis has been cut... im waiting on the fabricators to bend up a bit of box to sleave inside the chassis then ill start welding

the series is now a stack of pannels and a chassis. im keeping the chassis as one for the time being so i can take measurements for outriggers mounts etc

im in the process of welding in new footwells to the bulkhead and repairing all the rust holes, also fabricating a new transmition tunnel, before i get it in paint

and im drinking an unbeliveable amount of tea
