S/S exhausts any recomendations please

Before I drop my gearbox, I need to get a new exhaust as the existing one is so corroded it won't come off. Want to get a Stainless one while I'm in the UK next month to bring back to France with me.
Any recomendations for or against welcome. I note that the Rimmers one is not liked but they do a cheapo and an expensive one, are they both NBG?

Data, people I know stateside swear by Borla. As I know you're one who takes care of your car you might check them out.
 
I would recommend Powerflow, but it does mean having the car with you as they are built on the car. My dealer was exceptional at getting the sound just right which involved three visits and box changes all at no extra charge.

How long do they take? I'm only in the UK for a short time, I was hoping to pick one up to bring back to France. Not much choice here and silly prices. Not interested in the sound, the P38 is for gliding along in near silence, if I want speed and noise I take the MR2 or motorbike.
 
I can understand you wanting to get a good quality, not a cheapo piece of kit, but how old is the original exhaust? The originals (not patterns) do last quite a while and you`re not running on salty UK roads there.
Can`t comment on Rimmers R-R exhausts but have heard bad reports of their systems for Classic Triumphs which simply don`t fit!
 
I had a janspeed cat back system on mine a few years back and it was a very well made piece of kit, fitted well and was quiet, only time you could hear it was under full throttle and then it was only a muted rumble from the 4.6. Two discreet tall pipes too, not stupid looking. Highly recommended.
 
A friend has got a Janspeed one on his P38 and it looks good quality personally I don't like the fact that you have to trim the bumper for the tail pipes.

I was looking at one of the Double SS ones where they do a downard pointing tailpipe much like the original.

The exhaust is original, so 11 years old, 8 of which were in the salty UK. It would maybe last a bit longer but the joints are so rusty I can't get it off without cutting it. It's got to come off to swap the gearbox:(

There is a Powerflow dealer close to where I will be in the UK, I'll phone then for a quote. No prices on the web site.
 
My advice Keith knowing where you live, is buy a bog standard exhaust and fit that, it will last ten years at least. Stainless exhausts are very very much over priced and more of a fashion accessory than a need.

You ain't seen the prices of exhausts over here Tony, a S/S one from the UK is a lot less than I would pay here for something that comapares to Quackfit. Had a S/S one on the MR2 for 20 years now, Toyota ones lasted 2 years.
S/S also seems to be cheaper than LR OEM.
 
rimmers arent bad for the money if they are fitted properly. they are made by falcon who do more expensive makes too.

i think it was double s people had complained about ?
 
do a search on here for double s (it can be written in a lot of ways so might take few searches)

the last person I think said they were crap was the k-man (krystal)
