Should not have given the car a cleanout, found a rust hole on the rear boot floor pan under the passanger seat , drivers side  , it does not seem much at the moment, about 5mm gap for 4", would it be better to cut and weld this section rather then replacing the whole floor pan as it entails the removal of carpets, trims, seatbelts etc, also in the engine compartment, the top of the wheel arches both side are very crunchy, how would you repair these and is it expensive and how long to sort out? the car is required for work durring the week so it cant be in the body shop longer thena day.
The car is a 92 (K) V8i auto, only has just done 99k miles, so would like to fix the above before parting company, never had any mechanical problems as such, besides the steering wobble, just the body work is going.
Unless some one wants to take it over for a off road project :D .

doing my boot floor pan and under front inner arches and sills at the mo, personally i would just grind away get rid of all rust and weld and bash back into origional shape, but saying that mine is derv and heat and sparks arnt that much of a problem for me grinding and welding above the fuel tank as they would be for you "being petrol" so be carefull, just get ontop of it as a few months ago mine wasnt as bad as it is now.

Hello

Just had my rear floor replaced using parts from paddock's which cost £105 and paid a mate to weld it. Iwould get the arches done first before the rot reaches the sills and becomes a real issue this can happen amazingly fast as it did on my first disco a few years back I ended up breaking it for spares which was a waste.

cheers

too late on the sills for me like i mentioned, making some chequar ones up this week, i thought from what he said it the top of the inner arches i.e under where my air filter would be on the tdi, just take the wheels off and do it from underneath, to bladder eververything with a lick of hammerite and underseal once its welded as any open metel will rot worse than what you just ground away.

different testers have different opinions on the rust side of these, like stig said if its within 30cm of seatbelt mounts then yer, but as for the rest as long as the body mounts are good then they should get through but still if its there yer still wanna get rid of it. gonna be working on mine over the next few weeks then bangin her in for the MOT that was due 4 months ago now:eek: stig any chance once she is finished of you giving her an inspection/test?
