Diesel overflowed when I first filled up my new-to-me '74 SWB 111.
So i removed the tank only to find it was fine. It was the fuel filler hose, perished and useless. Now I have got a new hose, but before I start drilling rivets thought I'd ask how you remove the filler throat? There are four screws which simply spin, surrounded by rivets. There is no access from the tub (Rivetted plates cover that bend area) and none from underneath/behind he seat.

Anyone done this job and can tell me the easiest way to remove it?

One thing I found with landys is that everything has nuts behind, I dont think they were as up to date as everyone else.
There might be captive nuts behind which have grabbed with rust and are now spinning, looks like the only way is to saw them off with a hacksaw blade.
Unless someone else comes a long in a sec with a better idea.
 
IIRC the filler tube cover inside should be held on with screws, so a former owners may have used pop rivets.
I did the job last year, but I cant remember how, I rather think I found the filler didn't remove, it was a bend it and force it in job. I do remember it was a pig of a job, and it took two of us.
 
on my S3 you can get to the filler and breather pipes from behind drivers seat at least to undo the clips, the cover in tub should be self tappers, so drill the rivets out
i had the same problem last year got a paddocks rubber filler hose , it was too small forthe pipe , buggered abouit for hours then put the old old back on a bit tighter
 
OK. I am going to drill out the rivets in the cover assembly in the tub, not the exterior filler cap area. I should be able to get at the end of the pipe to remove/replace. All will be revealed..in the fullness of time.
 
The plate in the tub had both rivets and bolts. Both the bolts had nuts on in unreachable places! I drilled out the rivets and dremelled around one bolt, levering the plate upwards and away from the filler pipe.

Then I could see the tiny nuts behind the outside four bolts and could undo them.

Pipe came out.

Trying to replace with the new pipe is a b*gger. I am fiddling with it now and only two knuckles are bleeding...
 
OK. Fit the new fuel pipe to the metal top pipe.

Put hand through open hole and work the assy downwards.

When the end of the pipe pops out through the wall, control its movement and direct it down through the hole below.

You can wiggle it from the top and pull down at the bottom. And, with a single bound - it's in!
 
Yep. Cuts on back of hand, right arm.. and there is an ebay item here in New Orleans for the tub plate that I have bent and destroyed.. $12.50 - there IS a God of Land-Rover owners!
