If you read the small print it mentions discos,and barbeques.Yep it was your post I read Odenne. Got The rapeseed in 15lt containers and one thing I noticed (Dont know if im imagining it) was the diesel clatter noise from the engine seems to have had the edge taken off it. Put 75lt of the rapeseed in on top of the diesel that was in the tank so about 20lt of derv. Might be that I got rapeseed and you were looking at the same make but veg oil??? Its KTC extended life rapeseed oil and the general use instructions on the back mention its use in preparing salads, mayonnaise and baking but nothing about putting it in 300tdi Discos
Well as veggielandee i gotta have my say.
Before i get fkin hacked to death with pseudo machetes.
Rapeseed is by far the best out of all The SVO,s.
The second best is the one with antifoaming agents in that blew up(alledgedly) one of my previous cars.(without heaters.)
Melandee runs as quiet as a cat purring on bio/rapeseed 50/50.
Beautifull smell from the fume chucker,as the guy who produces it uses tree oils one bieng dipentine(This product is made from Gum Turpentine Oil.Used in Paints, Perfumes, Textile, Liquid Cleaner, anti insecticide etc.
Light yellow to white clear liquid.) copy and paste is alive an kikinn!!!!
My deisel filter will be changed approx 4 times per year.

Where do you get your oil from Veggie? I saw that you said its about 85ppl. Sounds good to me. Oh and Mad... ya link is ****e cos it dont work so... No it wont do me

Pure unadulterated Rapeseed Oil from Bookers Cash and Curry (sorry Carry)
85 ppl in 1 ltre bottles in boes of 15.

People here say that soya oil gums up the injectors / rings / everything, I've always avoided it, I only use rapeseed oil without the (antifoaming agent E900).

Soya should be fine, i also heard the rumour somewhere that it wasn;'t ideal but lots on here say it's absolutely fine!

Colleague of mine who i buy bio from now has sorted me out with loads of resteraunt pickups.
Not only do i get paid for the ****ty stuff,i also get my bio at dead right money two.

Got back from Cornwall last Saturday .Did over a thousand miles in two weeks ,mostly pulling the van (1200 kg}She never missed a beat .I filled up at Bodmin having done 404 miles it took 81 litres to brim the tank .Worked out just under 23 m.p.g(nobody told me there were mountains on bodmin moor)30 mph at one point flat out!.This week I decided to try the KTC cooking oil Ive had for a while 50/50 mix to start with.More reluctant to start but started ok.When I went for a spin it seemed wierd, mines an auto .flat spot at 1600 revs then gave it a little more and I took off like a V2 rocket revs shooting up to 2200.I drove round for about 100 miles but she didn,t seem to like it .This morning she started but then stalled 50 yards down the road.She started so I just drove straight to Tesco and put 60 litres pump doozel in.Guess I ,m not meant to be a veggielandy

I had a word with a mechanic at work about this cooking oil fiasco. He runs a 300tdi Disco.
He showed me his mixing bucket. Said he does a 40% diesel to 60% oil mix - but the other way round in winter.
His advice? "just get it poured in and save some cash!"
Wasn't overly convinced so phoned my mate Brian at Land Rover 4x4 Motor Engineering, Servicing Alloy Wheels MOT - Leeds Yorkshire and asked his advice. He said he'd heard good and bad reports about running on oil. He said I should be ok on the 300 engine though, said it's a military based engine and that it'll pretty much run on anything that's thrown at it! Someone once told me old engine oil (well filtered) would run it!
Two of my mates have run their 4x4's on oil.....one has a Shogun, the other had a disco and now a Toyota.
I looked on youtube and saw the Top Gear article regarding used oil.

I thought bugger it....in for a penny save quite a few pounds!
One of my mate's works for a recycling company, he delivered 120 litres of used cooking oil to my door a few weeks ago.
Filled my tank......this is what (and ALL) I did:
1) Bought a bucket, metal flour seive, Jay-cloths, 1 litre measuring jug, watering can with detachable sprinkler head, 2 litre bottle of white spirit.
2) placed jay cloth into seive, placed seive over bucket.
3) used measuring jug to haul approx 1 litre of oil from 60 litre drum.
4) poured used cooking oil into jay cloth.
5) after every 3 litres of oil filtered, we added 100ml of white spirit
6) just over half bucket of filtered oil, poured this mix into watering can
7) took watering can out to the disco, open fuel cap and pour merrily!
(The fuel tank already had 1/4 tank of diesel onboard)
Kept doing this for ages.
Put ignition key in, turn key, read fuel guage, just over 3/4 mark.
Started disco, took it for a run to pull mix through filter and fuel line. Clocked up about 1.5 miles and found myself sat at red traffic lights. Disco started to run like a sack of crap (tick-over revs up and down, nearly stalling). Lights turned to green, foot down (sticking to speed limit 30mph), car ran like a dream.
Got back home, parked up outside house, tickover crap!
Neighbour came out (ex diesel fitter), told him what I'd done, he laughed, stood at back of car looking at output from exhaust. He told me to give it some gas....pushed the pedal and blew out a massive cloud of white smoke which took it's time drifting down the street! Smelled good though!
He laughed and told me to get some more diesel on top of my mix.
Went to garage and filled the old gal right up to the neck, managed to squeeze in £32.50 straight.
Disco has run fine since. It sometimes seems to get a bit of phantom power when running at around 20mph in slow traffic, it seems to just pick up and go.
Anyway, that was 4 weeks ago, fuel gauge needle is now just below the 1/4 mark......so looks like I'm gonna have to get back into the garden and filter some more oil.......innit!

I've been using wvo for a bit now and filtering through a jay cloth is nowhere near fine enough to just pour straight in your tank, not suprised yours ran like a bag of crap at times. Invest in some 5 / 10 micron filter bags (not expensive) and carry a spare fuel filter just in case.
Clean yor sedimenter out and change your filter again before using properly filtered wvo, also unless you're sure of the source that the wvo comes from you might want to cook it up to remove any water from it.

If you think that a jay cloth filters out enough stuff, carry on using 'em but for the sake of 3 or 4 quid for some reusable micron filters I don't think it's worth the risk of clogging my engine.
And don't believe everything Clarkson says

I found this website yesterday, I had a good look around the forums. I've learnt some handy and practical stuff on here.
I was thinking of buying a Range Rover, but looking at all the problems with them I think I'll stick with my trusty disco. We've had it for three years now....and......it just goes!
These forums have taught me about things I never knew existed on this vehicle!
Sedimenter??.....Didn't know what one was, didn't know the car had one, didn't even know where it lived until I read these forums! Cheers guys.
I'm still learning.
So thanks to this forum, you lot have succeeded in convincing me to stick to the disco.

Had mine into the repair shop yesterday £230 spent on core plugs, gaskets, new water pump etc.
Still got a ton of jobs to do on the car....but steady away and I'll have them sorted....the only problem is the rot I'm finding now! Mechanically....SOUND!
I also learned about this damn high beam problem through these forums....so I'll be stripping the indicator stalk down when I get some time!
