Anybody know if there is an air shut off valve on the td6 to prevent complete engine failure at all ??? Thanks Dan

Thank you, there's still oil in my sump it ran for about a minute before stalling at full bore smoke bellowing etc. couldn't tell you if it clattered or not on stalling as I was pre occupied on removing my two young kids from the car..anybody like to guess my options now ?

If it was manual box you should have stalled it.
Happened to me in mates golf, replacement turbo sorted it but it only screamed it nuts off for 10secs or so.

L322's are all auto's

Sounds like the turbo seals are gone or there is a crack in the head/block between cylinder and oil way....

Options are - get it fixed....simples!
All autos ..... I would have leaped under the bonnet with me Rambo knife clamped in me teef and cut the turbo hoses throat.

Or run away.....

Sorry ,what I'm trying to ask is do you think likely the engines knackered or just turbo replacement? Here's the situation: no rod through block ,no oil spill anywhere and oil still present in sump. Would it be likely to choke its self before melt down ? Are these no interference engines ?just trying to form a pic of potential damage

Disconnect turbo pipe from inlet, start her up, it won't run away.
Just for a few secs to listen how the engine sounds.

Might be an idea to very carefully check how much oil is in the sump eg is it over full????

Also check coolant level, make sure there hasn't been an internal failure allowing the sump level to be artificially raised.

What ever fault is found and rectified it would be sound to change the oil and filter before putting the vehicle into regular service.

Just got the car back, it's had a recon turbo, upgraded crankcase breather, air, fuel and oil filters along with oil obviously and is running great but my only prob is the smoke is still coming on boost ! The garage said unless I fit a new exhaust I'm gonna have to wait for it to burn its self clean. Anyone else experienced this or have any worthwhile info or opinions to share ??

Yep, the exhaust will have most of the oil you lost from the sump in it.
Took around 10 miles for mine to burn off after turdo failure which wasn't as bad as yours.

10 miles is excellent, I've done about 30 this morn and it's still bellowing on boost. I'm keeping an eye on the oil levels also. The garage say they've taken it out a few times and the oil level remains so I'll give it a while and see how it goes but fear it may not burn off.

Just thought about this again and remembered that I had to remove most of the exhaust system, up to the rear axle, to change my turdo.
I poured a lot of oil out and left the pipes draining overnight before building it all back up.
I was gutted when I saw all the thick smoke , it filled the street!
But, like I said, 10 miles and it was clear again.
Mine didn't run away like yours, the seal just went near to home but I was surprised how much oil was in the exhaust.
Yours would have a lot more and the garage may not have bothered to empty the exhaust and possibly your intercooler and hoses as well?

Hi, not sure they would of cleaned exhaust at all but they said inter cooler and pipes were all cleaned out. They did say they drilled a small hole in the system to help. I presume the cat is full of oil aswell as the huge back box. My main fear about fitting a new exhaust is that once on it still smokes for some reason ...

My scenic dci popped it's turbo last summer, ran away briefly but stalled it. I rebuilt the turbo by buying a brand new core and fitting my existing casings. Exhaust side needed loads of cleaning which I did with paraffin, spilt a bit down the down pipe (oops) and was so scared of restarting it afterwards I dragged it into the middle of my street with me disco. To say it smoked was an understatement but it was fine after about a fortnight, and I only use it at weekends so I wouldn't worry too much at the minute.

Thankyou that has give me a bit of hope in it clearing. I have been told it will but seeing the smoke it puts out after you just threw a wad of cash at it doesn't fill you with confidence.

Small update for anybody interested, done about another 40 mile today with not much difference but after a few miles tonight on boost mainly ( awful under the street lights at night) there seemed to be a hell of a lot less smoke by the time I got home !!! So fingers crossed
