Noticed on my first road trip with my 2003 Lifelander that I heard a rumble in the rear end, I think, and a vibration at around 80 mph. Could it hopefully be that I need my tires balanced. Please say that it is.
If I accelerated to 100 it would go away. Sounded like I war running over corrugated road surface. Any suggestions? :boink:
Hope it is not serious.

Wheel bearings or prop shaft bearings. Does it rumble slowly as you speed up then decrease as you accelerate or vice versa? I had this happen to me not so long ago and it turned out to be wheel bearings. I also replaced te prop bearings because they were beyond gone.

I think one problem could be the wheel bearings as there is a low level noise that I hear at any speed. This is at all speeds. The other sound, as I mentioned is a different one. A rumble/vibration at 50 mph that goes away at lesser speed and higher speed, i.e. 60 mph. So perhaps the later sound could be tire balance or sadly the the prop bearings. How much is the prop bearing job going to ream me out for?

While you're under the car, make sure the rear diff mounts are OK. There's 3 of them and they do perish (particularly the front one) and can cause different noises at different speeds. See if the diff will move about by hand. They're quite cheap to replace.

Thanks. I will check it out. Seems the Rover forum is quite active. Should that be telling my something about my purchase. I am trying not to fall in love.
